The Celiac-Safe Halloween Candy List (2026)
A parent-friendly guide to which Halloween candy is safe for celiac kids — and the traps to avoid.
SAFE — grab these
Chocolate
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups — regular, Minis & Big Cups (labeled gluten-free). NOT the seasonal shapes (pumpkins, ghosts, bats) — those aren’t labeled GF and run on shared equipment.
- Reese’s Pieces (not Pieces Eggs)
- Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bars & Hershey’s Kisses (standard varieties)
- 3 Musketeers (fun size), Snickers, Milky Way Caramel (not original Milky Way)
- York Peppermint Patties (standard shapes), Mounds, Almond Joy (not Almond Joy Pieces)
- PayDay, Heath, Baby Ruth, 100 Grand, Butterfinger (fun size), Rolo (not Rolo Minis)
- Tootsie Rolls, Tootsie Pops, Dots, Junior Mints, Charleston Chew — the whole Tootsie line is made in a gluten-free facility.
Fruity & chewy
- Skittles, Starburst
- Smarties — made in a dedicated gluten-free facility
- Sweet Tarts, Laffy Taffy, Nerds, Pixy Stix, Mike and Ike, Lemonheads
- Jelly Belly jelly beans & Jelly Belly candy corn, Brach’s candy corn
- Peeps — “Always Gluten Free” right on the package
- DumDums, Welch’s fruit snacks.
Allergy-friendly certified picks
- YumEarth, Unreal (certified gluten-free), Free2b Sun Cups (certified gluten-free), No Whey (top-allergen free).
NOT SAFE — the traps
- Twizzlers & almost all licorice (enriched wheat flour is the #2 ingredient)
- KitKat (wafers), Twix (cookie)
- Whoppers / malted milk balls, Nestlé Crunch (barley malt hides in the rice crisps)
- M&M’s Crispy & M&M’s Pretzel (barley malt; Mars doesn’t label any M&M gluten-free)
- Seasonal-shaped Reese’s (same brand, different factory risk)
- Haribo gummies (company says they may contain wheat)
- Rice Krispies Treats (malt flavoring = barley)
- Cookies & cream anything; York Pieces / minis / shapes.
3 rules before the first bite
- 1
Read the package in your hand
Not the website, not last year. Seasonal shapes come from different factories.
- 2
Don’t trust the store display
Bins get mixed by other shoppers. The label on the bag is the truth.
- 3
When in doubt, trade it out
The teal pumpkin house has your back (Teal Pumpkin Project marks homes giving non-food treats).
Verified October 2026 against Hershey’s official gluten-free product list and manufacturer allergen statements. Formulas change every year — always check the label on the exact package you buy.
